Mr. Ottesen is a certified Sixth Degree Black Belt with the International TaeKwon-Do Federation, and is the Technical Director for Freedom TaeKwon-Do Schools.  He has over 20 years of experience in ITF Taekwon-Do and has been fortunate to be able to teach throughout Canada and across the world.  Mr. Ottesen was honoured to be invited to teach at both the 1st and 2nd ITF International  Instructor Development Camps, where he instructed and assisted in the development of Senior International Instructors from all over the world. Mr. Ottesen has been fortunate to have been able to work and train under the expert tuteledge of Grandmaster Tran Trieu Quan, President of the ITF.

As an elite athlete, he competed three times as a member of Canada’s prestigious National Team.  In 1996, Mr. Ottesen helped Canada win two Gold Medals and the Men’s Team Champions title at the Pan-American Championships.  In 1997, he helped win a Bronze Medal at the 10th World Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia, and in 1999, as Captain of the Team Canada he competed in the 11th World Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

As a coach and instructor, Mr. Ottesen has been very fortunate to instruct, work with and develop some truly exceptional athletes.  In 2007 Mr. Ottesen trained our very own Mrs. Karli Southgate and Ms. Samantha-Jean Dubé, who earned positions on the Canadian Delegation and competed at the 2007 ITF World TaeKwon-Do Championships in Quebec City, Quebec.  In 2004, he trained Mr. Chris Stacey for the 2004 ITF Junior World Championships in Riccione, Italy.

As the Director of Umpires for the Canadian Taekwon-Do Federation International (CTFI), he was Canada’s Chief Umpire at the past 4 World Championships and 3 World Cups.  He has travelled throughout the world officiating in many international events.   Mr. Ottesen wrote and continues to develop the official ITF Tournament and Officials Training Manuals, the official ITF ournament and Officials Power Point Training Program, and continues to travel throughout the world instructing the Official Class A and B ITF Umpires Seminars.

Specializing in Self Defense and Personal Protection, Mr. Ottesen is a Certified Instructor and offers cutting edge instruction for various Law Enforcement, Corrections, and private agencies.  Mr. Ottesen currenltly teaches BST 1&2, and AST, the Government Manndated Security Training Programs for Security Professionals in B.C. As a Close Protection Officer, he has provided security services for many corporate, celebrity and private individuals throughout Western Canada.

As a caring, committed Instructor, Mr. Ottesen takes pride in his position as a Professional Educator. He works hard to help his students develop self-esteem, self-control, confidence, pride, respect, and courtesy.  Through the teaching of TaeKwon-Do’s Moral Culture and common manners, he strives to give something back to the community.  Well known for taking an active interest in his students, he can often be found after class, answering questions and giving assistance to students, late into the evening.
